Beginnings: Walter and Lenie Cox

Our engagement in Madagascar commenced shortly after the inception of DPM South Africa. Belgian natives Walter and Lenie Cox played pivotal roles in our initial outreach efforts. Understanding the logistical challenges posed by Madagascar's scattered and often inaccessible villages, Walter obtained a short take-off and landing pilot license. This allowed him to distribute Bibles and Derek’s teachings across the nation effectively.

As an engineer, Walter was able to enter the country on his work visa before the fall of communism, where he met with church leaders and commenced their discipleship. His first teaching centered on "Blessing or Curse," emphasizing the need to break spiritual blindness and poverty through breaking curses. Walter successfully translated and printed the Self Study Bible Course, achieving his vision of wide distribution across Madagascar. Tragically, he passed away at the age of 57 while ministering in Madagascar.

Continuing the Mission: Dries and Valerie Du Plessis

Following Walter's untimely passing, Dries and Valerie Du Plessis stepped forward to continue the ministry in Madagascar. Our collaboration with the Du Plessis duo spans over 27 years, marked by remarkable accomplishments in translation work (primarily by Valerie, despite her two major strokes) and outreach.

Dries has been integral in the yacht/catamaran ministry, taking Derek’s teachings to coastal and inland villages. Additionally, our Foundation and Life’s Changing Spiritual Power books, printed in India, have been distributed widely across Madagascar, a testament to God's providence.

The duo's efforts extend to translating new English books, editing, and printing them. These translated works are voiced onto CDs in Malagasy for broadcast across seven radio stations. Among the many teachings disseminated, Derek's teaching on Fasting has been especially well-received during the Easter season, affirming our impact on the spiritual lives of the people of Madagascar.
