Our trip to Sihanoukville province, along the southwest coastal area, revealed significant changes influenced by the growing presence of Chinese businesses and investments. This transformation has raised concerns about safety and the overall environment, both physically and spiritually. Many young Christians are leaving their churches and ministries in search of job opportunities, leading to a decline in active ministry work. As a result, provincial pastors in Sihanoukville are facing a major challenge in sustaining their congregations and continuing their mission. Even though the church property was at risk of being taken or relocated by the government due to skyrocketing land prices driven by the Chinese economic boom before the COVID-19 pandemic, the church remained steadfast.
Our focus was on equipping pastors and encouraging them to keep praying for the church, the largest indigenous group in the region. Recognizing their unique needs and limited access to resources, we carefully selected five core DPM books: Will You Intercede?; The Authority and Power of God’s Word; The Power of the Sacrifice; Hear God’s Voice and Faith and Works.
Fifty six pastors from various villages attended the seminar, eager for spiritual growth, encouragement, and fellowship. They arrived with smiles, warmly greeting one another. Pastor Veasna, a dedicated member of our DPM pastoral team, worked tirelessly to bring them together, fostering unity and intercession in response to the challenges in Sihanoukville.
Everyone sat in silence, burdened by their challenges, yet the youth team led a powerful time of praise and worship. As they sang "Give Thanks", the atmosphere shifted—the fire of worship filled the room, and worries faded away. In that moment, hearts were renewed, reminded that God's Word always brings peace and rest in Him.
"Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant. For your sake, Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary… We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy." - Daniel 9:17-19
The seminar, structured with worship and small group discussions, proved to be a powerful approach. The intimate setting encouraged deeper engagement and meaningful conversations, creating a space where pastors felt heard and supported. Through this, we reassured them that they are not alone in facing challenges and spiritual trials.
This experience highlighted the vital need to reach underserved communities, equipping them with the encouragement and resources necessary for spiritual growth. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside these devoted pastors and witness the transformative power of intercession in changing circumstances.
Testimony of Sok Nai
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to attend this course, as it has deeply encouraged and strengthened me in both my faith and ministry. Our church is currently facing a significant challenge—the land on which our church has stood for many years has been claimed as state property. As a result, we have been asked to leave without any compensation or relocation assistance. However, we are still holding on, believing that God will make a way.
Despite this uncertainty, we continue to pray fervently for God’s divine intervention. Today, as I attended the DPM seminar and studied the book Will You Intercede? I was greatly encouraged by the examples of intercessors such as Abraham and Esther. Their unwavering faith and bold prayers inspired me to continue interceding for our church, trusting that God will work in His perfect timing.
Please stand with us in faith, asking God to provide a clear resolution and a place where we can continue to worship and serve Him freely. Thank you, and may God bless you.
