When we set out to study the Bible, is there an easy way to identify the basic and most important doctrines that should be studied first?
Yes, there is!

"The Bible has a list of all the essential beliefs of our faith", he said. "Did you know that?"
I may have looked puzzled, as I replied: "Yes, I know. Why do you ask?"
He must have thought that I didn't understand him, because he continued, "I don't mean the Ten Commandments. There's a list in Hebrews 6. Why doesn't our church teach about these topics? Why didn't anyone tell me about this?"
This made me think. Why hadn't I told him about it? Maybe because I assumed he knew already? After all, this young man had been going to church from childhood on. The thought struck me: it is possible to go to church your entire life without ever really hearing the Gospel, without being thoroughly taught what it means 'to believe in God'!
